If you are thinking of taking a safari or beach holiday in Kenya you will not be alone. Many people each year are drawn to a few days spent observing the wild-life and then a week or so soaking up the sun on the coast – a perfect combination!
Most holidays to Kenya do entail a night in Nairobi, either on the way out, the way back, or both, so it is a question of finding good quality and affordable accommodation in Nairobi for just one night.
If you have booked your safari through a travel agent – and most people do – then chances are that the agent will recommend a good hotel. Many safaris start with an early morning flight the next day, so location-wise a hotel near the airport is worth considering due to convenience, as your hotel will literally be somewhere to rest your head for the night.
Other people choose to stay in the centre of Nairobi to get the feel of the city in a short time, but if so, it is still best to take the recommendation of the travel agent, as there are some parts of Nairobi which are less than salubrious.
There are also some speciality lodges close to the outskirts of the city which cater specially for transit safari trade and some of these are quite luxurious. They are often a little more expensive but a great way to start a holiday.
