There are few things that can ruin a holiday faster than accommodation infested with vermin. We all look forward to our holidays, and often we plan for months just to have a week or two away from home.
We half expect a flight to be cramped and the food to be terrible, you expect to arrive tired and grumpy and desperately in need of a shower. The one thing you do not expect is to be sharing your accommodation with an assortment of insects or pigeons, called Antipalomas in Spanish.
At home, when the odd bug appears we take care of it immediately, getting rid of the insect and begin scrubbing and scouring until every surface is systematically cleaned and sanitised. Perhaps this seems a bit extreme, but in your home you can control it.
Walking into holiday accommodation expecting a clean and useable space, and being greeted instead by grime and an infestation is enough to make even the most seasoned traveller turn and run.
A little hint to spare you from such an experience is to book your accommodation carefully. If you are booking online, don't just take the first place you come across, look for places that have reviews written about them. These are usually reliable and can be the difference between having a holiday alone or sharing it with some friendly vermin.
