With a population of 4.5 million people, Sydney is the largest city in Australia. It is also one of the fastest growing cities in the world. According to the latest census numbers, immigrants are responsible for around 75 percent of the city's annual population growth. A good portion of these immigrants come from the UK. Why are people moving to Sydney? You're kidding, right? How about the fact that the average annual temperature is 70 degrees Fahrenheit. Or that it is home to some of the best beaches on earth. Really, the only drawback we could find is that Sydney is rather expensive. But that hasn't stopped UK residents from moving there in record numbers over the past decade. Obviously, an English-speaking city that has a growing business community is a draw for most international businessmen. What about hotels Sydney cbd Because of the high cost of airfares and hotel accommodation, the number of UK arrivals fell sharply during the recession. The final figures confirmed a decline of nearly a third in 2009. Furthermore, even when UK tourists did come to Sydney, they spent less on shorter trips. Another obvious trend was the preference of UK guests for economical accommodation. As a result, many five star hotels in Sydney were forced to close their doors in 2009. Though the rebound will likely be a modest one, industry insiders are predicting an increase in UK arrivals in the summer of 2010.
